In Charlie's words...

"I’m tired of all the neon lights
I’m tired of life on the road
I’m tired of being all by myself
I’m going back to the best place I know.

I’m gonna bounce back, I’m gonna show you what I’m made of
Fly straight, I’m gonna beat away these blues
I’m gonna get right, on the next flight and head
Right straight back to you."

About Charlie

Charlie and dad...Charlene "Charlie" Harvey was born in New Glasgow Nova Scotia and now calls the small community of Carrolls Corner home, a little further removed in the rolling forested hills of rural Nova Scotia.

She began singing when she was just four and started performing on stage by the age of seven. Her influences were her family, with her father playing guitar and her mother singing in a choir.

Her grandmother also sang in a choir and was a member of “The Mariners” a gospel group that traveled around Hants County, visiting seniors' complexes and churches. Nannie also played guitar and piano and these influences growing up have given Charlie a home-grown love of music.

When Charlie moved to Mount Uniacke, her father often played guitar for her while she would sing at church events, jamborees and talent shows. She did a few songs for a Christmas show on the local cable channel when she was just 13, and was a member of the school choir in grade seven.

Charlie would sing at whatever gigs her dad’s band would play, ‘The Uniacke Mountain Rebels’ at local Legions, benefits, dances, house parties, etc.

Charlie began writing poems when she attended high school, and when she was in her 20's her poems turned into songs. "I wrote a poem one time and a few days later while I was cleaning the house, I started humming a tune and singing the poem that I had written", Charlie stated. When Charlie didn't play the guitar much, she turned to a friend and fellow musician to help her put chords to her first song, "My Little One".

Charlie took a break from her music while in high school, but the love of the music brought her back in the late 90's. She has written new material debuted on her CD, "Charlie's Country".

She entered the first "Hants County Idol" competition in Noel and made the top six. This was her first time singing karaoke and she was quoted to be the "next Terri Clarke".

She picked up the guitar when she was 30 and has been going strong with it ever since, appearing frequently at jamborees around the county.

Charlie's recognition as a singer and performer is growing, and is looking forward to upcoming events. Keep an eye out for her as she takes her talents to events in your area.
